These berries are rich in carbohydrates and carotenes, organic acids, for example, citric and malic acids. All this pushes to the idea that the cowberries really need to have useful properties, which, as you can see, and is the case.

Medicinal Properties of Cowberry

The useful properties of the cowberries can be divided conditionally into two parts − the benefits of berries themselves, and the benefits of cranberry leaves. As for berries of the cowberries, they are recommended to the people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, such as ischemic disease or arthritis. In view of this, the cowberries are useful for people of advanced age because they are prone just to such diseases. Moreover, the cowberries contribute to reducing a blood sugar, so in this case, they will be very useful for the older generation too. In addition, the cowberries are recommended for the children, the adults, and even the pregnant women. For example, the cowberry juice will help get rid of anemia or neuroses. Also, there are people who have a low acidity in the stomach, in which case the cowberries will help avoiding these problems.
 
This berry is popular by other properties too. So, it helps restore the lost vision (if, of course, this loss is not complete), and also to relax the eyes − the cowberry relaxes the oculomotor muscles, which positively affects the eyesight. Therefore, it is useful to eat before bed. 10-15 berries help relaxing after a busy day. The cowberry is also used as a rejuvenating agent in cosmetology. Due to the presence of antioxidants, this berry is used in the anti-aging creams, facial masks and so on.
 
As for the medicinal properties of the cowberry's leaves, there are also some very interesting moments. Firstly, the cowberry leaves are used as good antiseptic. They can be applied to the open wounds and bruises because they will disinfect the damaged areas of the skin, and also act as a hemostatic. In addition, the cowberry leaves can be prepared for the winter, previously dried, and used as warming tea, which, incidentally, can help with colds. Also, such tea will help if you have problems with the kidneys, but you just need to use it at the first symptoms. Simultaneously, the leaves of cowberries have a positive effect on the digestion of substances and digestive processes.
 
Since berries of the cowberries are difficult to keep fresh for a long time, for the winter they are prepared as cowberry water, juice, and jam. A jam from the cowberries will have absolutely similar positive qualities as in the fresh berries, but in this case such jam will additionally contain sugar, and this should be paid attention to those who suffers from diabetes.
 

Contraindications of Cowberries. Possible Harm

There are only a few contraindications for the use of cranberries.
 
1. Do not be carried away in these berries in case there are problems with the stomach or intestines − ulcers, gastritis, etc.
2. It is not recommended eating the cowberries after heavy operations, as it will be too "harsh" for a weak organism. Therefore, it is not necessary to carry to the hospital cowberries as the "vitamins for the convalescence".
 
In the rest, the cowberries are a completely harmless product, possessing a mass of useful medicinal properties.
