Can We Use Dried Figs for Food?

Sufficiently widespread dried fruit among today's products is dried figs. It has many useful properties that are manifested because of this dried state, and it has much less harmful qualities, thanks to the dried form. By the way, today this fruit is available almost everywhere − it is sold in supermarkets and fruit shops, unlike the raw fruit, which is quite problematic to buy because this does not make much sense. So, let us look at the basic properties of dried figs, thus, to know if they can be eaten in this condition?

Useful Qualities of Dried Figs

In order to take advantage of the most useful qualities of dried figs, it is necessary to choose the fruits of light yellow color. This shade indicates that it has matured to the fullest extent, and that the drying of such fruit has gone without any problems (decomposition, flaccidity, dampness, etc.).

Just note that the dried figs contain a large amount of sugar because during drying, the most of its moisture evaporates from this product, and the sugar is concentrated in the large quantities. So, the amount of proteins in the dried fruits is as much as 3-6% (which is a lot for the fruit itself), and the amount of sugar is as much as 50-70% of the product. For comparison, in the conventional figs, this amount of proteins is hardly 1%, and of sugar is about 15%. On this basis, it can be concluded that this product is not desirable for those who look after their figure.

Of course, it can be consumed, as its natural components are more easily absorbed, but it is necessary to monitor the amount of eaten figs. And if you guessed with the norm of eating the figs a day, you will get the maximum of useful properties from this. It is no secret that the figs are a source of natural energy that can multiply our forces, become an excellent "fuel" for the fruitful physical and mental work.

Like many fruits, figs contain a large amount of organic substances − micro and macro elements. Among numerous of such elements, the first place goes to the cellulose. By the way, in the dried figs, the cellulose is very much larger than in other dried fruits, and in raw ones, too. This contributes to the regulation of digestion processes, benefits the gastrointestinal tract and favorably affects the organs. Moreover, during meals there is appeared a pleasant feeling of satiety. That is, we no longer feel hunger, so consume food as much as we need.

Contained vitamins in the dried figs have a beneficial effect on various groups of organs. Among them, they have a beneficial effect on:

- the eyes and the sensory organs (improves hearing, sensitivity to smells);
- the muscular system (gives energy and endurance, i.e. it serves as a "natural doping");
- a soothing effect on the throat (especially useful during colds, bronchitis, etc.).

In addition, the composition of dried figs contains pectin. This is an important element that promotes the rapid healing of wounds, both internal (such as hematoma) and external - cuts, scratches, etc. In general, the pectin affects the blood plasma, having a positive impact on it. Also, the dried figs are a good natural laxative, so in this regard, you should observe the measure.

Harmful Qualities of Dried Figs

Since figs are a laxative, this quality also plays against it because with too much overdose there can be the poisoning suspicion. Also, it can lead to the development of the intestinal and other digestive ailments. The figs are strictly contraindicated to people who have problems with the obesity since it acts on them not in the best way. It is contraindicated and for the suffering from diabetes since it contains a large amount of sugar, albeit natural one.

In general, the dried figs do not have direct pronounced shortcomings. Yes, it is harmful in the excessive quantities, yes, it has a lot of sugar, but on the whole this product is harmless enough in normal doses. You should pay attention to the using of the figs by the pregnant women. Because of the fact that this dried fruit is sweet, for sure it will be appealing to the pregnant women, but they need to monitor the amount of food eaten since this may not have the best effect on the fetus. After all, does not want the same mother, so that the future baby would have problems with the blood sugar?

Thus, the dried figs have many useful properties which have beneficial effects on the organism, both at the molecular and macro levels. In addition, it is a sweet product, and sweets always raise the mood, make our life more colorful and kinder, which is also important today.
