Kalamata olives − Useful Properties

Quite a lot of disputes arise in occasion of and concerning what are actually the olives present? Some say it is a vegetable, others say it is a berry or a fruit. However, with regard to the olives, there is a clearly established line − raw fetuses are considered the fruits, but when already used for cooking, they are already considered vegetables. Though, in fact, the olives remain fruits, and one of the most interesting varieties of olives is Kalamata (Greece). So, today we will consider just this kind of olives since they are the most useful among other species, besides the most delicious, even if they are found in the stores less often than the ordinary varieties.

In a nutshell about the fruit itself − in contrast to the simple olives, these fruits have a violet color and a large size. The Kalamata olives are suitable both for making spring salads, and for making pizza, meat products and fish dishes and so on. In addition, often, these olives are used in combination with the sharp foods − red pepper or garlic. Well, let us try to consider the useful properties of this fruit, which, in fact, we are interested in.

Energy Value and Useful Properties of Olives

Olives contain about 249 kcal (naturally, at 100 g), so we can safely say that their caloric value is very low. Consequently, the olives are recommended for those who have problems with excess weight, or all who switched to diets. In addition, the Kalamata olives contain vitamins A and E, a large amount of cellulose and oil. Also, there are proteins and carbohydrates, albeit in small amounts. Among other things, the olives are a source of sodium, and this is also interesting that they practically lack the cholesterol.

First of all, it should be noted that the olives, in particular a variety of Kalamata, are a powerful source of fatty acids. So, the olive oil is extracted from the fruits, which in itself is very useful. Most often, the olive oil is recommended for fighting the gastritis and the gastritis diseases. So, it is enough to consume daily one ounce of the olive oil before eating, and after three months the probability of its cure will be rather high. And the first positive shifts begin after the first reception, and by the way, one ounce of oil can be used as two tablespoons in the morning and in the evening. Also, the fatty acids contribute to the hemodilution of blood, a decrease in development and the emergence of a risk of autoimmune diseases, cancer and diseases associated with the cardiovascular system, and also prevents the formation of stones in the biliary tract and bladder.

The use of Kalamata olives prevents anti-inflammatory processes, and also helps stopthe development and progress of the diseases such as asthma and osteoarthritis. Due to the presence of vitamin E in the composition of the olives, the human organism is saturated with the substances that counteract and fight free radicals. Among other things, these same substances contribute to the protection of the body from oxidative processes, protects against the cancer.

The undeniable health-promoting effects on the organism have the Kalamata olives as a mean for the bone's system. For example, using these olives to get rid of osteoporosis, especially for the elderly, and for the young children and women, olives will act as a strengthening agent, since the fetuses contain a large amount of calcium. Also, the Kalamata olives support metabolism because they contain the copper and the magnesium.

Virtually all varieties of olives contain a lot of cellular tissue, which in turn helps clean the intestines, help with the constipation and other diseases associated with the intestinal tract. The olives are also useful in more serious intestinal diseases, such as the hemorrhoids. To eat fresh olives is much more useful than canned. The fact is that the canned olives contain a large amount of salt, so their use must be controlled, and just less consumed. However, what about raw olives, then you can eat much more and this will not adversely affect the organism.

Contra-Indications of Kalamata Olives

Any type of the olives, in particular, and considered by us, contains a large amount of iodine. This, in turn, is some contraindication since iodine is not recommended to everyone, and some people because of it can have the allergic reactions. Further, the olives can adversely affect the gallbladder, and also, the use of them may be accompanied by a feeling of prolonged bitterness in the mouth, and also cause some severity in the stomach.

Thus, the use of the Kalamata olives, especially canned, should be carefully monitored; otherwise, you can feel their side-effects.
