Useful Properties of Acerola. Fruit Storage

If the ordinary cherries grow the northern and central regions of Europe and Asia, with which we are all familiar, then hardly any of us are familiar with the acerola (Barbados cherry). The fruits of this plant are very similar to cherries, but their size is several times smaller. These are small red berries with a thin skin, but they have far not the smallest or scanty useful composition. To date, the fruits of acerola are actively used to enhance the immunity. For these purposes, the fruit can be consumed both in fresh and dried forms. In addition, you can find a powder mixture on the shelves of shops, which includes dried fruits of acerola. 

Also, the acerola is used to make marmalade and jams, a variety of juices or jellies. So, let us take a closer look at the acerola's useful properties and what they consist of.

Acerola Useful Composition 

Extremely low calorie content − only 30 kcal per 100 g, makes acerola a dietary product. In addition, it does not contain the fats, and the amount of protein and carbohydrates is also low. So, the carbohydrates are only eight grammes, and the protein is slightly more one gram. However, this is far from the most important thing in the Barbados cherry. 

The acerola is useful with its active minerals that make up this product. So, it contains a large amount of calcium and phosphorus − about 12 and 11 mg, respectively; in addition, there is a sufficient amount of magnesium − 18 mg, and an abundant amount of potassium − about 140 mg. In turn, the potassium supports the work of cell membranes, not letting them tear. In addition, it normalizes the blood pressure and largely has a positive effect on the blood (helps with blood deficit). However, the greatest amount of substance in this fruit - it is vitamin C. So, its amount exceeds 1600 mg, which is really impressive. And now the useful properties in this entire product are repelled from the beneficial properties of vitamin C. 

Acerola Useful Properties 

So, the beneficial properties of the acerola include the prevention of atherosclerosis. This product helps fighting this unpleasant disease due to the high concentration of antioxidants included in its composition. The acerola's flesh helps increase the therapeutic effect on the organism, having a positive influence on the walls of the vessels. Thus, this fruit should be included in the diet of your own food. 

Like all natural components containing a large amount of vitamins, the acerola is able to control the immune system. So, with a lack of useful substances that fight diseases, it reinforces the immunity with everything necessary. In addition, this fruit increases the endurance and resistance of the body to the external factors, and also reduces the perception of various diseases coming from outside. The acerola is very effective for the normalization of the functioning of the liver and urogenital system. So, the Barbados cherry promotes the purification of the liver, and as a result, it begins to function fully. Naturally, this applies to the cases where the liver is not too "planted". 

Among other things, there are the antioxidant properties in the acerola, which are accompanied by the destruction of free radicals, and their active resistance. The cherries of the plant in question are also affecting the memory motility, help to regulate the level of sugar in the blood and organism, dramatically reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. The acerola, in particular, vitamin C helps forming the collagen in the organism. This substance is a structural component of the skin, tendons and blood vessels. Without this substance, any of the above-mentioned tissues will not be strong and fragile, and thanks to it, the regenerating and healing properties of the organism are increased. For these reasons, the acerol and collagen are included in the cosmetic products, where they find their own application in the fight against aging and other unwanted processes that accelerate the wear and tear of our organism. However, even if you use the fresh fruits, the effect will be noticeable, and it will appear in the radiant appearance of your skin, and to the touch it will be soft and tender. 

How to Store Acerola? 

In this case there can be several ways of the storage and the operations. For example, to eat the acerola is best at once, while it is fresh. If this is not possible, the product should be dried since more useful substances and properties will remain in the dried fruit, rather than if you will store the acerola in the refrigerator. Also, you can store this product in the freezer, but after it begins to melt, along with the water will come out and the fruit's useful substances. Therefore, add the frozen acerola, directly including it in the recipe of the cooking some other product. For example, add it to a pot with compote or use for making the delicious tea.
